White Food-Contact Counter Bags – Approximately 7 Micron HDPE
Our white counter bags provide a quick, practical and economical way to package food and other lightweight products. Manufactured from high-density polythene, commonly known as HDPE, these bags are suitable for direct food contact and work particularly well in busy retail and food-service environments.
At approximately 7 microns thick, the bags remain lightweight and flexible while offering reliable everyday protection. The translucent white material allows staff and customers to identify the contents while helping to protect products from dust, dirt and handling.
The open-top design makes the bags easy to fill, which helps staff serve customers quickly during busy periods. Once filled, the bags can remain open for immediate use or close with bag tape, a twist tie or a compatible bag-neck sealer.
What Are Counter Bags?
Counter bags are lightweight, open-ended polythene bags designed for packing food and small products at retail or service counters. Shops commonly use them for bakery products, fresh produce, confectionery and other lightweight purchases.
Unlike carrier bags, counter bags do not have handles and are not designed for carrying heavy products. Instead, they provide a simple inner packaging solution that keeps individual items together and helps protect them during handling.
Their lightweight construction makes them a cost-effective choice for businesses that use large quantities of bags throughout the day. Each size comes in a pack of 1,000, helping bakeries, grocers, delis, cafés, convenience stores and market traders maintain an efficient supply.
Fast and Convenient Food Packaging
The open-ended design allows staff to insert products quickly without removing adhesive backing strips or opening a grip-seal closure. This makes the bags particularly useful in fast-moving food environments where speed and convenience matter.
The flexible HDPE film fits easily around bread rolls, pastries, vegetables and other irregularly shaped products. The bags also occupy very little storage space, so businesses can keep a useful quantity near a service counter without creating unnecessary clutter.
These counter bags do not include an integrated closure. However, users can close them with bag tape, twist ties or a bag-neck sealing system when products require a more secure pack.
Available Sizes
- 6 x 8 inch / 150mm x 200mm white counter bags – suitable for confectionery, biscuits, single bread rolls, herbs and other small food portions
- 8 x 10 inch / 200mm x 250mm white counter bags – suitable for sandwiches, pastries, fruit, vegetables and medium-sized food products
- 10 x 12 inch / 250mm x 300mm white counter bags – suitable for larger bakery products, produce and multiple lightweight items
The imperial dimensions are approximate. Please use the millimetre measurements when checking the exact size required.
How to Measure Counter Bags
Counter-bag dimensions follow the format:
Width x Height
Measure the product at its widest and longest points. If the item has depth, allow additional width and length so that it fits comfortably inside the bag.
These bags have a flat, non-gusseted construction. As a result, bulky or irregularly shaped products use more of the available width and length than flat items.
If your product measurements sit close to the dimensions of a bag, choose the next available size or request a sample before placing a larger order.
Why Choose Our White Counter Bags?
Our white HDPE counter bags provide businesses with a simple and economical packaging solution for everyday food-service applications. Their lightweight construction makes them easy to store, dispense and use, while the open top supports fast packing at busy service counters.
The bags are suitable for direct food contact, making them a practical choice for bakeries, grocery shops, delicatessens, cafés, convenience stores, market stalls and other food retailers.
Their translucent finish allows the contents to remain visible, while the flexible material fits around many different product shapes. Packs of 1,000 also offer a convenient supply for businesses with regular or high-volume packaging requirements.

These counter bags are suitable for direct food contact and can package a wide variety of bakery, grocery, confectionery and delicatessen products.
However, they are not suitable for freezing and should not be sold or described as freezer bags. They are also not intended for use in ovens or microwave ovens.
If you require a Food Safety Certificate or need to confirm suitability for a particular food type, storage condition or temperature, please email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk before ordering. Our team will provide the relevant information for your application.
Storage and Handling
Store the bags in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight, strong heat sources and potential contamination. Keep unused bags inside their original packaging until required.
When using the bags for food, follow your usual hygiene and food-handling procedures. Select a bag large enough to hold the product without stretching the film or placing excessive pressure on the seams.
Material and Responsible Disposal
These counter bags use standard high-density polythene and should not be described as biodegradable or compostable. After use, follow your local authority or commercial waste contractor’s guidance for disposing of flexible plastic film.
Food-contaminated bags may require a different disposal route from clean plastic packaging, so always follow the appropriate local waste guidance.
PPWR Compliance Information
Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on Packaging and Packaging Waste, commonly known as the PPWR, applies to polythene and polypropylene packaging placed on the EU market. Material specifications and supporting product documentation are available for our polythene and polypropylene products to help customers complete their compliance assessments. However, material type, recycled content or food-contact suitability alone does not confirm full PPWR compliance. The responsible economic operator must assess the finished packaging and its intended use against all applicable requirements, including packaging minimisation, substances of concern, recyclability, recycled content, labelling and technical documentation. Customers intending to place these products on the EU market should email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk to request the latest available documentation and confirm suitability for their application before making a PPWR compliance claim.
