The larger 550mm x 457mm x 75mm silver carrier bag uses a 360/180 varigauge construction. The film measures approximately 360 gauge around the handle and gradually reduces to 180 gauge across the main body of the bag.

The thicker material forms an integral part of the bag around the handle. Unlike the smaller option, the large varigauge carrier does not rely on a separate patch to reinforce this area.

Varigauge construction places additional material where the carrier experiences the greatest pressure while retaining flexibility across the main body.

Neither construction makes the carrier suitable for unlimited weight. Product dimensions, shape, rigidity and weight distribution will all affect carrying performance.

How to Choose the Correct Silver Carrier Bags Size

Measure the complete width, height and depth of your product before selecting a silver carrier bag. When packing several products together, measure their combined dimensions rather than each item separately.

Choose the 380mm-wide patch-handle carrier for medium-sized clothing, accessories, jewellery, cosmetics, books and gifts.

Choose the larger 550mm-wide varigauge carrier for wider products, larger garments, boxed items, footwear and multiple customer purchases.

The 75mm bottom gusset increases the available capacity as the bag opens. However, the contents will use part of the stated width and height when the polythene expands around thick or bulky products.

Allow enough space above the contents for the customer to grip the punched-out handle comfortably. Products that sit too close to the handle opening may make the bag difficult to carry and could place excessive pressure on the reinforced area.

The carrier should accommodate the contents without stretching tightly against the seams. If your product sits close to the measurements of the smaller carrier, choose the larger size or request a sample before placing a larger order.

Do not select the larger carrier solely because it has thicker material around the handle. The size, shape and weight of the contents must remain appropriate for the film, seams, gusset and handle construction.

How to Use Silver Carrier Bags with Punched-Out Handle

Open the silver carrier fully and allow the 75mm bottom gusset to expand before inserting the products. Place flat or heavier items towards the bottom, then arrange lighter products above them.

Keep the contents below the punched-out handle so the customer can grip the carrier comfortably. When packing several items, distribute their weight evenly instead of concentrating the load on one side.

Avoid forcing oversized products into the carrier or pulling sharply against the side seams. Cover sharp corners, pointed edges and projecting components with tissue paper, bubble wrap or another suitable protective material.

For the smaller bag, check that the reinforcing patch sits securely around the handle opening. For the larger bag, inspect the varigauge handle area for damage before use.

Check the seams and gusset before handing the carrier to the customer, particularly when the contents are valuable, fragile or close to the bag’s practical capacity.

Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on Packaging and Packaging Waste, commonly known as the PPWR, applies from 12 August 2026 to packaging placed on the EU market. We can provide available product specifications and supporting information to help customers complete their compliance assessments.

Polythene construction, varigauge film, a reinforcing patch or potential recyclability alone does not confirm full PPWR compliance. The responsible economic operator must assess the finished packaging and its intended use against all applicable requirements, including packaging minimisation, substances of concern, recycled content, recyclability, labelling and technical documentation.

Material and Responsible Disposal

These carrier bags use flexible polythene construction. Clean bags may suit specialist flexible-plastic, carrier-bag or polythene-film recycling collections, depending on the facilities available in your area.

Many household kerbside recycling services do not accept plastic bags and flexible films. Some supermarkets, commercial waste contractors and specialist recycling facilities provide separate collection points.

The smaller carrier includes a reinforcing patch around the handle. Recycling acceptance may depend on whether this patch uses a compatible polythene material and on the requirements of the selected recycling service.

Remove paper receipts, labels and other non-polythene components where practical. Food, oil, chemical residue and other contamination may prevent recycling services from accepting the bag.
