Blue Tint Box Liners Food Grade and Crate Liners
Our blue-tint box liners provide a practical and hygienic way to line crates, boxes, bins and containers used in food production, catering, warehousing, manufacturing and distribution.
The flexible polythene liner creates a barrier between the contents and the outer container, helping to protect products from dust, dirt and light moisture during normal storage and handling.
Each liner has an open-ended, gusseted construction. The large total gusset allows the material to expand around wide or bulky containers more effectively than a completely flat polythene bag.
The blue tint provides clear visual identification in food-handling environments while allowing the contents and fill level to remain partly visible through the material.
These liners are supplied in boxes of 100, making them suitable for businesses with regular crate, box and container-lining requirements.
Food-Grade Polythene Blue Tint Box Liners
These liners use food-grade polythene suitable for food-handling applications.
The blue tint makes the liner easier to distinguish from many food products and ingredients. This can support visual housekeeping and product-control procedures within food-production environments.
The blue colour does not mean the liner is metal detectable. Do not describe or use these liners as metal-detectable packaging unless separate product documentation specifically confirms that property.
Food suitability always depends on the exact product, contact time, temperature and conditions of use. Follow your organisation’s food-safety, hygiene, allergen and traceability procedures.
Available Box Liner Size
These blue-tint crate liners are available in the following specification:
- 625mm x 1150mm x 625mm / approximately 24.6 x 45.3 x 24.6 inches – 18 micron and supplied in boxes of 100 liners
We show measurements as width x total gusset x height.
The 625mm width is the flat width across the main face of the liner.
The 1150mm total gusset is the combined gusset allowance across the folded sections. It allows the liner to expand around the sides and base of a suitable crate, box, bin or container.
The 625mm height is measured from the sealed bottom to the open end of the liner.
The imperial dimensions provide approximate conversions from the metric specification. Please use the millimetre measurements when you require the most accurate fit.
Understanding the Total Gusset Measurement
The total gusset is not the same as the internal depth of a rigid box or container.
It represents the complete combined gusset allowance built into the folded liner. As the liner opens, this material expands around the base and sides of the container.
The usable fit depends on the container’s width, depth, height, wall thickness and shape. Rounded corners, tapered sides and protruding edges can also affect the liner required.
A liner may have sufficient total material but still be unsuitable if it cannot reach the bottom of the container or provide enough excess material above the rim.
Always test the liner in the intended container before placing a larger or repeat order.
18-Micron Lightweight Construction
At 18 microns, these liners provide lightweight separation and protection for products supported by an outer box, crate, bin or container.
The outer container should provide the main structural support. The liner is not intended to carry heavy contents independently or replace a load-bearing sack.
The lightweight material makes the liners flexible and easy to fit around container interiors. It also allows unused liners to remain compact when stored.
Avoid dragging filled liners, lifting them without supporting the outer container or placing them directly against sharp corners. These actions can stretch or puncture the polythene.
If your application involves heavy, sharp, hot or abrasive products, confirm whether a thicker liner specification is required.
How to Choose the Correct Blue Tint Box Liners
Measure the complete internal width, depth and height of the box, crate, bin or container you intend to line.
Allow additional material for:
- The liner to reach the bottom
- The gussets to expand around the sides
- The material to follow the shape of the container
- Folding the open end over the rim
- Filling and settling of the contents
- Tying, taping or closing the liner
- Irregular or tapered container walls
Do not select a liner based solely on the container’s volume. Two containers with the same capacity can require different liner dimensions because of their shape.
Rigid square containers, tapered bins and rounded tubs all use the gusseted material differently.
If the container dimensions are close to the liner specification, request a sample and carry out a practical fitting test before ordering a complete box.
How to Fit Blue Tint Box Liners
Make sure the container is clean and free from sharp edges, splinters, staples and projecting components.
Open the liner carefully and identify the sealed bottom. Insert the sealed end into the container and push it gently towards the base.
Allow the gussets to open naturally around the bottom and sides. Do not force the polythene sharply into corners, as this can stretch or puncture the material.
Smooth the liner around the interior without placing excessive tension on the seams. Fold the open end over the container rim where sufficient material is available.
Add the contents gradually and distribute them evenly across the container. Avoid dropping heavy or pointed products directly onto the unsupported liner.
After filling, gather, fold, tie or tape the open end according to the product and your organisation’s packaging procedures.
Food-Handling Applications
These food-grade liners can be used as an inner lining for suitable boxes, crates, bins and containers used in food handling and production.
Potential applications include ingredients, bakery products, confectionery, fruit, vegetables, chilled products and other food items compatible with the liner specification.
The suitability of the liner depends on factors including:
- The type of food
- Contact temperature
- Duration of contact
- Fat or oil content
- Acidity
- Moisture level
- Storage conditions
- Freezing or chilling requirements
- Filling and handling method
Do not use the liners for applications outside their confirmed food-contact specification.
The liner does not automatically make an unsuitable, dirty or damaged outer container appropriate for food use. Maintain and clean reusable containers according to your food-safety system.
Protection During Storage and Handling of Blue Tint Box Liners
The liner helps separate products from the internal surface of a crate or box. It also provides protection from dust, dirt and light moisture during ordinary handling.
The material is not a rigid protective barrier and does not prevent crushing, impact damage or punctures. Use a suitable outer container to provide structural protection.
These liners are not automatically airtight, leakproof or tamper evident. The open end requires a separate closure method where containment or security is necessary.
For liquid products, use a container and liner system specifically assessed for the liquid, weight and closure requirements. Do not rely on an unsupported 18-micron liner as the sole liquid container.
Closing the Liner After Filling
Depending on the application, the open end can be:
- Folded over the contents
- Gathered and tied
- Secured with a suitable bag tie
- Closed using approved tape
- Heat sealed where the material and equipment are suitable
- Folded beneath a box lid
Choose a closure method appropriate for the product, contact requirements and storage conditions.
Do not overfill the liner. Leave enough material above the contents to form the intended closure without stretching the polythene or placing pressure on the seams.
If using ties, tape or labels in a food-production environment, make sure they comply with your organisation’s contamination-control and food-safety procedures.
Why Use Blue Tint Box Liners in Food Environments?
Blue packaging is widely used in food-handling environments because it is visually distinctive from many common food products.
The blue tint can make the liner easier to identify during handling, cleaning and inspection procedures. It also allows staff to distinguish these liners from clear general-purpose sacks.
However, colour alone does not provide contamination detection or food-safety compliance. Businesses must assess the complete packaging system and follow their documented hygiene and quality-control procedures.
These liners are blue tinted rather than completely opaque, so the approximate contents and fill level may remain visible.
Storage and Stock Management
Store unused liners inside their original box in a clean, dry area.
Keep them away from:
- Direct sunlight
- Naked flames
- Heat sources
- Sharp tools and machinery
- Oils and chemicals
- Excessive dust
- Pests
- High humidity
- Sources of food contamination
Keep the box closed when liners are not being removed. Staff should handle unused liners with clean hands or suitable gloves where required by the food-safety procedure.
Rotate stock according to your organisation’s inventory system and check liners for damage or contamination before use.

Food Contact Information
These blue-tint liners use food-grade polythene and are suitable for appropriate food-handling applications.
Food-contact suitability must still be assessed against the exact food, temperature, contact time and conditions of use. Do not assume that one food-grade liner specification is suitable for every food-processing application.
Prevent the liner from contacting hot surfaces, naked flames or products above the permitted temperature for the material.
If you require confirmation for a particular food application or need a Food Safety Certificate, please email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk before ordering.
PPWR Compliance Information
Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on Packaging and Packaging Waste, commonly known as the PPWR, applies from 12 August 2026 to packaging placed on the EU market.
We can provide available product specifications and supporting information to help customers complete their compliance assessments.
Food-grade construction, blue colour or potential recyclability alone does not confirm full PPWR compliance. The responsible economic operator must assess the finished packaging and its intended use against all applicable requirements, including packaging minimisation, substances of concern, recycled content, recyclability, labelling and technical documentation.
Customers intending to place these products on the EU market should email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk to request the latest available documentation and confirm suitability for their application before making a PPWR compliance claim.
Material and Responsible Disposal
These liners use flexible polythene construction.
Clean liners may suit specialist flexible-plastic or polythene-film recycling collections, depending on the facilities available in your area.
Many household kerbside recycling services do not accept flexible plastic bags and films. Commercial waste contractors and specialist recyclers may provide separate collection services.
Empty the liner completely and remove labels, ties, tape and other non-polythene components where practical.
Liners contaminated with food, grease, oil, chemicals or other substances may not suit recycling. Follow the waste-segregation procedures required for the previous contents.
Where a liner remains clean and undamaged, consider reusing it for an appropriate compatible application before disposal. Always follow the guidance provided by your local authority or commercial waste contractor.
Recycled material content can vary according to the product specification and stock batch. Please contact our sales team if you require confirmation of the material composition.
Important Safety Information
Keep unused liners away from babies and young children to reduce the risk of suffocation. Do not use them as toys, protective clothing or bedding.
Store the liners away from direct heat, naked flames and prolonged sunlight. Polythene can melt or burn when exposed to high temperatures.
At 18 microns, these liners are designed to work with a supporting box, crate, bin or container. Do not use an unsupported liner to carry heavy contents.
Protect the material from sharp corners, splinters, staples and pointed objects that could puncture the polythene.
Do not climb into, stand inside or place the liner over the head. Keep loose material away from moving machinery and conveyors.
Inspect the liner and seams before use, particularly where leakage, contamination or product loss could create a hazard.
