Black Compactor Sacks 280g

Our Black Compactor Sacks 280g provide a practical medium-duty solution for collecting everyday commercial and industrial waste.

Each sack measures 22 x 33.5 x 47 inches, equivalent to approximately 559mm x 851mm x 1194mm. The large format suits compatible compactor bins, commercial waste containers and other appropriately sized sack holders.

The 280-gauge polythene is approximately 70 microns thick. Consequently, it provides a practical specification for suitable general waste, packaging, wrappers and bulky commercial refuse.

These sacks contain 30% recycled content, helping reduce the amount of virgin polymer required in their manufacture.

The opaque black appearance helps conceal the contents, while the side-gusseted construction allows the sack to expand around soft and irregularly shaped waste.

The sacks do not include a bottom gusset. Instead, the side gussets provide the additional capacity needed to fit around compatible waste containers.

Compactor sacks are also commonly known as extractor sacks, particularly when used as removable liners in commercial waste-compaction systems.

We supply these Black Compactor Sacks 280g in boxes containing 100 bags.

Black Compactor Sacks 280g Size and Specification

The product specification is:

  • Colour: black
  • Nominal imperial size: 22 x 33.5 x 47 inches
  • Approximate metric size: 559mm x 851mm x 1194mm
  • Measurement order: width x total gusset x height
  • Material thickness: 280 gauge
  • Approximate thickness: 70 microns
  • Material: flexible polythene
  • Recycled content: 30%
  • Construction: side-gusseted compactor sack
  • Bottom gusset: none
  • Closure: open top without an integral tie
  • Typical duty: medium duty
  • Box quantity: 100 sacks

The dimensions are nominal manufacturing measurements. Therefore, small production tolerances may apply.

The metric measurements are approximate conversions from the original imperial specification. Please use the inch dimensions when you require the closest comparison.

Understanding the Black Compactor Sacks 280g Measurements

We show the sack measurements as width x total gusset x height.

The 22-inch / approximately 559mm measurement represents the width across the face of the sack while it lies flat.

The 33.5-inch / approximately 851mm measurement represents the total open width, including the material folded into the side gussets. Consequently, the sack expands beyond its visible face width when opened.

The 47-inch / approximately 1194mm measurement represents the overall height from the sealed base to the open top.

The 33.5-inch measurement does not represent one completely flat front panel. Instead, part of the material forms the folded side gussets and provides additional internal capacity.

Furthermore, bulky contents use some of the available width and height as the polythene expands around them. Therefore, a rigid item measuring close to the complete stated dimensions may not fit comfortably.

Always allow additional clearance rather than selecting a sack that only just matches the measurements of the intended container or contents.

Black Compactor Sacks 280g with No Bottom Gusset

These Black Compactor Sacks 280g feature side gussets but do not include a bottom gusset.

When the sack lies flat, the additional material remains folded into the sides. Once the bag opens, these folds expand and allow the sack to fit around a compatible container.

The sealed base remains flat rather than expanding through an additional bottom fold. Therefore, guide the base evenly into the bottom of the bin before adding waste.

Make sure the base sits flat and is not twisted, folded over or caught on internal fittings. Otherwise, uneven positioning may place unnecessary pressure on the bottom seam.

The absence of a bottom gusset does not prevent the sack from accommodating suitable bulky refuse. However, the shape and rigidity of the contents will affect how effectively the bag uses its available capacity.

Designed for Compatible Compactor Bins

The generous dimensions make these sacks suitable for many commercial compactor bins and large waste containers.

However, the term “compactor sack” or “extractor sack” does not guarantee compatibility with every compactor, trolley, bin or waste-handling system.

Compactor containers can vary in:

  • Internal width
  • Internal depth
  • Height
  • Rim thickness
  • Opening shape
  • Handles and hinges
  • Internal brackets
  • Retaining systems
  • Mechanical components

Therefore, measure the intended container before ordering and compare its complete dimensions with the sack specification.

The sack should reach the bottom without being stretched tightly. Additionally, sufficient material should remain at the top to fold over the rim and gather after filling.

If your container has unusual dimensions or internal fittings, request a sample before purchasing multiple boxes.

Using Black Compactor Sacks 280g Around Compaction Equipment

These sacks may be suitable for lining waste containers associated with commercial compaction systems.

However, do not assume that the sack can safely enter the mechanical compaction chamber or come into contact with moving equipment.

Always follow the instructions supplied by the compactor or waste-equipment manufacturer. In particular:

  • Fit the sack only in the intended container or collection area
  • Keep loose polythene away from moving components
  • Do not reach into operating machinery
  • Isolate equipment before removing trapped material
  • Do not exceed the recommended container capacity
  • Follow site-specific loading and removal procedures
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment where required

The sack provides a method of containing suitable waste. It does not replace machine guards, safety procedures or approved waste-handling equipment.

Opaque Black Compactor and Extractor Sacks

The black polythene helps conceal the waste inside the sack.

Consequently, these bags suit commercial environments where visible rubbish could appear untidy, including retail premises, warehouses, hospitality venues, offices and communal waste-storage areas.

The dark colour can also help organisations distinguish general refuse from recyclable materials collected in clear or coloured sacks.

However, black does not have one universal meaning across every waste-management system. Always label the relevant container and confirm the correct collection stream with your waste contractor.

The product photographs provide a general representation of the material. Lighting, reflections and screen settings may affect how the colour and finish appear.

Medium-Duty Black Compactor Sacks 280g

These Black Compactor Sacks 280g have a nominal thickness of 280 gauge, equivalent to approximately 70 microns.

This medium-duty specification suits many commercial applications involving packaging, wrappers, housekeeping rubbish and other appropriate non-hazardous waste.

However, gauge describes the approximate thickness of the polythene rather than a guaranteed carrying capacity.

The amount a sack can safely contain depends on several factors, including:

  • The formulation of the polythene
  • The construction of the base seam
  • The total weight of the contents
  • How evenly the waste is distributed
  • The presence of sharp or abrasive materials
  • The temperature of the contents
  • The condition of the sack
  • How the bag is removed from the container
  • The distance over which it is carried
  • Whether the filled sack is dragged
  • Whether compaction has increased the density of the waste

Compacted material can become considerably heavier and denser than loose refuse. Therefore, a sack that is not full may still exceed a safe handling weight.

Always assess the complete load before removing the sack. If the application involves particularly heavy, dense, sharp or abrasive waste, choose a higher-gauge compactor sack or a suitable rigid container.

30% Recycled Content

These black compactor sacks contain 30% recycled content.

Using recycled polythene helps reduce the amount of virgin polymer required in the product. Nevertheless, recycled content alone does not determine the sack’s overall environmental impact or guarantee that it can be recycled after use.

The remaining material composition supports the required film-manufacturing and performance characteristics.

Small variations in colour, shade, opacity, surface texture and finish may occur because recycled raw materials can differ between production batches. These variations do not necessarily indicate a fault.

If you require current material specifications or supporting documentation for environmental reporting, Plastic Packaging Tax records or customer compliance checks, please contact our sales team before making additional claims.

Gusseted Black Compactor Sacks 280g

The sacks include folded polythene within their sides. While the bag lies flat, this material forms the gussets. Once opened, the folds expand and provide additional internal capacity.

This construction allows the sack to adapt around soft and bulky waste more effectively than a completely flat bag.

Before fitting the sack into a container, separate the sides carefully and make sure the gussets have opened fully. An unopened or twisted fold may prevent the bag from reaching the sides or base correctly.

Although the gussets provide additional capacity, they do not make the sack puncture-proof. Exposed metal edges, broken plastic and other pointed materials may still damage the polythene.

Protect sharp corners or use a higher-gauge sack or suitable rigid container where puncture resistance is particularly important.

Suitable Uses for Black Compactor Sacks 280g

These Black Compactor Sacks 280g may suit waste such as:

  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Empty cartons
  • Plastic wrapping
  • Packaging film
  • Empty wrappers
  • General retail rubbish
  • Warehouse packaging waste
  • Housekeeping waste
  • Non-sharp catering waste
  • Exhibition materials
  • Soft production offcuts
  • Disposable cleaning materials
  • Soft and bulky refuse
  • Mixed non-hazardous commercial waste

They are particularly useful where a compatible compactor bin or rigid waste container supports the bag during filling.

However, suitability depends on the complete waste load rather than one individual item.

For example, loose cardboard may appear lightweight before compaction but can become dense and difficult to handle after compression. Similarly, paper and absorbent materials become considerably heavier when wet.

Monitor both the volume and weight of the contents. Do not continue filling a sack simply because unused space remains.

Waste These Black Compactor Sacks Should Not Contain

Do not use these black compactor sacks for:

  • Broken glass
  • Exposed blades or needles
  • Unprotected sharp metal
  • Rubble or demolition waste
  • Bricks, concrete or tiles
  • Large quantities of soil, sand or gravel
  • Timber containing exposed nails
  • Hot ashes or embers
  • Heated cooking equipment
  • Hot manufacturing waste
  • Large quantities of liquid
  • Leaking containers
  • Solvents or corrosive chemicals
  • Clinical or infectious waste
  • Hazardous substances
  • Batteries requiring separate disposal
  • Waste electrical equipment
  • Waste requiring a regulated sack
  • Materials prohibited by the compactor manufacturer

Sharp, hot, clinical and hazardous materials require suitable specialist containers and approved disposal procedures.

Furthermore, the open top does not create a watertight seal. Therefore, do not use these sacks to contain free-flowing liquids or leaking waste.

Black Compactor Sacks 280g Are Not Rubble Sacks

These medium-duty products are compactor sacks rather than rubble sacks.

Do not use them for bricks, concrete, broken tiles, sharp masonry, large quantities of soil or other dense building materials.

Construction waste combines substantial weight with sharp and abrasive surfaces. Consequently, it may puncture the polythene, damage the base seam or create an unsafe manual-handling load.

Use a purpose-designed rubble sack, skip or rigid container for building and demolition waste.

How to Choose the Correct Compactor or Extractor Sack Size

Measure the width, depth and height of the intended bin or container before selecting a compactor sack.

For a rectangular opening, measure both the width and depth. The sack must provide enough material to pass around the complete rim without being stretched tightly.

Next, measure from the bottom of the container to the top edge. Allow additional height for folding the sack over the rim and gathering it after filling.

Also consider:

  • Handles
  • Hinges
  • Retaining bands
  • Moulded rims
  • Internal brackets
  • Projecting fasteners
  • Compactor fittings
  • Variations in the container’s shape

The sack should reach the base without stretching. However, excessive loose material at the bottom can become trapped beneath the contents and make removal more difficult.

Because the sack has a face width of 22 inches and a total open width of 33.5 inches, part of the stated width forms the side gussets.

Therefore, do not treat the 33.5-inch measurement as the width of one completely flat panel.

If the dimensions of your container are close to the sack specification, request a sample before ordering multiple boxes.

How to Fit Black Compactor Sacks 280g

Remove one sack from the box and identify the open end.

Next, separate the sides carefully without pulling sharply against the seams. Open the side gussets fully so the sack can expand to its intended width.

Lower the sealed base into the empty container and guide it towards the bottom. As the sack has no bottom gusset, make sure the flat base sits evenly and is not twisted or folded.

Check that the polythene has not caught on sharp edges, rough surfaces, hinges, damaged fittings or projecting parts.

Fold the open edge evenly over the container rim. Where appropriate, use a compatible retaining band or liner holder to prevent the sack from slipping into the bin.

Avoid stretching the polythene tightly across the opening. Excessive tension may place unnecessary pressure on the material and seams when waste is added.

Before filling the sack, confirm that the gussets have opened and the base remains correctly positioned.

Filling Black Compactor Sacks 280g Safely

Add suitable waste gradually and distribute it as evenly as possible.

Place lighter and softer materials into the sack first. Avoid dropping heavy or rigid objects directly onto the base seam, particularly from a height.

Do not force oversized items through the container opening. Furthermore, never compress waste using your hands or feet, as hidden sharp objects could cause injury or puncture the polythene.

If mechanical compaction forms part of the waste system, follow the equipment manufacturer’s operating instructions and your organisation’s risk assessment.

Never place your hands, feet or tools into moving compaction equipment. Additionally, do not attempt to rearrange waste while the machine is operating.

Compaction increases the density and weight of the contents. Therefore, stop filling before the sack becomes too heavy to remove and handle safely.

Keep external containers covered where practical. Rainwater can substantially increase the weight of paper, cardboard and other absorbent waste.

Closing and Removing Black Compactor Sacks 280g

Before removing the sack, release the polythene from around the complete container rim.

Gather the open top carefully and check that the bag has not caught on handles, brackets, hinges or other projecting parts.

These sacks do not include an integral drawstring or adhesive closure. Therefore, use a suitable sack tie, cable tie or knot where sufficient material remains.

Lift the sack gradually rather than pulling sharply on the gathered top.

A filled compactor sack may become too heavy for one person to move safely. Assess the load before lifting and follow your organisation’s manual-handling procedure.

Where necessary:

  • Reduce the contents
  • Use a suitable sack trolley
  • Use approved lifting equipment
  • Ask another trained person for assistance
  • Follow the compactor manufacturer’s removal procedure

Do not rely entirely on the gathered top when moving a loaded bag. Support the base where it is safe and practical to do so.

Never drag a filled sack across concrete, rough flooring or external surfaces. Abrasion can weaken or puncture the polythene.

Finally, place the closed sack into the waste stream specified by your organisation or commercial waste contractor.

Why Choose Our Black Compactor Sacks 280g?

Our Black Compactor Sacks 280g combine generous dimensions, medium-duty film and practical side-gusseted capacity.

The 280-gauge / approximately 70-micron thickness provides a practical specification for suitable commercial waste, packaging and bulky refuse.

Meanwhile, the opaque black material conceals the contents, and the side gussets allow the sack to expand around compatible containers and irregularly shaped waste.

The sacks also contain 30% recycled content, helping reduce the amount of virgin polymer used in their manufacture.

Their nominal 22 x 33.5 x 47-inch / approximately 559mm x 851mm x 1194mm size suits compatible compactor bins and large commercial waste containers.

Finally, boxes of 100 provide a convenient supply for organisations with regular waste-management requirements.

Food Contact Information

These black compactor sacks are intended for waste-collection applications.

Do not use them to store, wrap or transport unpackaged food unless the supporting documentation explicitly confirms suitability for direct food contact.

Black or recycled polythene construction does not automatically meet the requirements for food-contact packaging.

Food businesses may use the sacks for appropriate back-of-house waste, provided they follow their hygiene, allergen-control, pest-control and waste-separation procedures.

If you require confirmation for a particular application or need supporting documentation, please email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk before ordering.

PPWR Compliance Information

Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on Packaging and Packaging Waste, commonly known as the PPWR, applies from 12 August 2026 to packaging placed on the EU market.

We can provide available product specifications and supporting information to help customers complete their compliance assessments. However, recycled-content or polythene construction alone does not confirm full PPWR compliance.

The responsible economic operator must assess the product and its intended use against all applicable requirements, including packaging minimisation, substances of concern, material composition, recycled content, recyclability, labelling and technical documentation.

Customers intending to place these products on the EU market should email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk to request the latest available documentation and confirm suitability before making a recycled-content, recyclability or PPWR compliance claim.

Material and Responsible Disposal

These sacks use flexible polythene containing 30% recycled content.

Sacks containing commercial or general waste are normally disposed of together with their contents through the appropriate waste stream rather than recycled separately.

Clean and unused polythene sacks may suit specialist flexible-plastic recycling services, depending on the facilities available in your area. However, many household and commercial mixed-recycling collections do not accept plastic bags or flexible films.

Contamination with food, liquid, chemicals or general refuse may prevent recycling. Therefore, always follow the guidance provided by your facilities manager or commercial waste contractor.

Where a sack remains clean and undamaged, consider reusing it before placing it into an appropriate recycling or waste stream.

Important Safety Information

Keep unused sacks away from babies and young children because the flexible material can present a suffocation risk. Never use the sacks as toys, protective clothing or bedding.

Store unused bags in a clean, dry place away from direct heat, naked flames and prolonged sunlight. Polythene can melt or burn when exposed to high temperatures.

Never place hot ashes, embers or heated objects into the sacks.

Do not overload the bags or fill them with waste that exceeds the strength of the material or seams. Similarly, protect the polythene from sharp corners, broken objects and abrasive surfaces.

Before lifting, check the sack for punctures, stretching or other damage. If the contents are bulky or heavy, reduce the load or use suitable mechanical handling equipment.

Always follow your organisation’s manual-handling, machinery-safety, hygiene and waste-disposal procedures.

Sample Requests

To request a sample, please email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk or call 0121 622 2347.

A small charge applies only to sample bags wider than 600mm. Our sales team will confirm any applicable charge before sending the sample.

Illustration Only

Compactor bins, waste containers, trolleys, waste, machinery and accessories shown in our product images demonstrate potential applications only and are not included with the sacks.

Compactor bins and waste containers vary in width, depth, height, capacity and rim design. Therefore, measure your container carefully before ordering and allow sufficient material for the sack to expand, reach the base, fold over the rim and close after filling.

Product photographs provide a general representation of the black polythene material. Lighting, reflections and screen settings may affect how the colour and finish appear.
