Common Uses

Our extra-heavy-duty black rubble sacks are suitable for collecting:

  • Broken plaster
  • Plasterboard offcuts
  • Small pieces of brick
  • Tile fragments
  • Manageable quantities of concrete debris
  • Mortar and render waste
  • Decorating waste
  • Wallpaper
  • Flooring offcuts
  • Packaging from building materials
  • Wood shavings and sawdust
  • Insulation offcuts
  • Garden and landscaping waste
  • Soil in manageable quantities
  • Small stones and gravel
  • Workshop waste
  • Maintenance debris
  • General site-clearance waste
  • Non-hazardous commercial refuse
  • Heavy or bulky waste unsuitable for lightweight refuse sacks

Always consider the total weight, shape and condition of the contents. Dense rubble can become too heavy to lift safely before the sack is full.

Extra-Heavy-Duty Black Rubble Sacks

Our black rubble sacks provide a practical waste-management solution for builders, tradespeople, landscapers, maintenance teams and customers completing renovation or clearance work.

Each sack measures 500mm x 750mm and uses 500-gauge polythene, equivalent to approximately 125 microns. This extra-heavy-duty specification makes the sacks suitable for demanding applications where a conventional lightweight refuse bag may not provide an appropriate level of thickness.

The flexible material adapts around irregularly shaped debris, while the opaque black appearance conceals the contents. Additionally, the open top allows users to fill the sack quickly before gathering and securing it for removal.

These rubble sacks contain 30% recycled material and are supplied in boxes of 100 bags.

Black Rubble Sacks Size and Specification

The product specification is:

  • Nominal metric size: 500mm x 750mm
  • Approximate imperial size: 19.7 x 29.5 inches
  • Measurement order: width x height
  • Material thickness: 500 gauge
  • Approximate thickness: 125 microns
  • Material: flexible polythene
  • Colour: black
  • Recycled content: 30%
  • Duty: extra heavy duty
  • Format: flat open-top sack
  • Closure: no integral closure
  • Box quantity: 100 sacks

The stated measurements are nominal manufacturing dimensions. Therefore, small production tolerances may apply.

The imperial dimensions are approximate conversions from the metric specification. Please use the millimetre measurements when you require the closest match.

Understanding the Measurements

The 500mm / approximately 19.7-inch measurement represents the width of the sack while it lies flat.

The 750mm / approximately 29.5-inch measurement represents the overall height from the sealed base to the open top.

These dimensions describe the flat sack rather than its internal capacity after filling. As the material expands around bulky contents, some of the available width and height is used to create depth.

Consequently, a rigid object measuring close to 500mm x 750mm may not fit comfortably inside the sack.

Always allow sufficient clearance around irregularly shaped waste. Furthermore, leave enough unused material at the top to gather, secure and handle the sack after filling.

500 Gauge / Approximately 125 Microns

These black rubble sacks use 500-gauge polythene, equivalent to approximately 125 microns.

This extra-heavy-duty specification provides additional material thickness for demanding building, renovation, landscaping and commercial waste applications.

However, gauge measures the approximate thickness of the film rather than guaranteeing a particular carrying capacity. The amount each sack can safely contain also depends on:

  • The formulation of the polythene
  • The construction of the seams
  • The total weight of the waste
  • How evenly the contents are distributed
  • The size and shape of the debris
  • The presence of sharp or abrasive edges
  • The temperature of the contents
  • How the sack is filled
  • How far it must be carried
  • Whether it is lifted or dragged
  • The condition of the sack before use
  • Whether the sack has previously been reused

A partly filled sack of bricks, concrete or soil may already be heavier than a completely filled sack of packaging or insulation waste.

Therefore, never use the visible capacity of the bag as the only guide to a safe filling level.

Contains 30% Recycled Material

The polythene contains 30% recycled material, reducing the proportion of virgin polymer required during manufacture.

Recycled-content film may vary slightly in shade, finish and surface appearance between production batches. These differences are normal characteristics of recycled polythene and do not necessarily indicate a manufacturing fault.

The opaque black colour helps provide a consistent appearance while incorporating recycled material into the film.

Do not make environmental claims beyond the stated 30% recycled content unless current supporting documentation confirms them.

If you require evidence of material composition or recycled content, please email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk before ordering or publishing a product claim.

Opaque Black Appearance

The black material conceals the contents more effectively than clear or translucent sacks.

This helps maintain a tidy appearance on building sites, in workshops, within commercial premises and during household clearance work.

The black colour can also help distinguish rubble and general construction waste from recycling streams that use clear, coloured or printed sacks.

However, users cannot inspect the contents through the film. Therefore, separate waste correctly before placing it into the bag.

Apply an appropriate label where the contents must be identified, and always follow your contractor’s waste-separation requirements.

Flat Open-Top Construction

These rubble sacks have a flat, open-top format.

The straightforward construction allows users to open and fill the sack without operating a zip, drawstring or adhesive closure.

Because the sacks are supplied flat, they require relatively little storage space before use. Boxes can therefore be stored conveniently in workshops, vans, warehouses and site stores.

The sacks do not include integral handles. Additionally, they do not have a built-in drawstring or adhesive seal.

Users must gather the open top and secure it with a suitable tie or knot where enough material remains.

Suitable Building and Renovation Waste

These extra-heavy-duty sacks are designed for suitable building and renovation debris.

They may be used for manageable quantities of:

  • Broken plaster
  • Render
  • Mortar fragments
  • Tile pieces
  • Brick fragments
  • Small concrete pieces
  • Plasterboard offcuts
  • Flooring waste
  • Wallpaper
  • Empty product packaging
  • Protective-film offcuts
  • Insulation
  • Wood shavings
  • Sawdust
  • General decorating waste

Although the sacks are intended for rubble, they still have practical limitations. Sharp edges can puncture polythene, while dense materials can create unsafe weights.

Break large pieces into manageable sizes where this can be done safely. Furthermore, avoid leaving sharp corners pressed directly against the side of the sack.

Garden and Landscaping Applications

The heavy-duty construction also makes these sacks useful for appropriate garden and landscaping waste.

Suitable materials may include:

  • Soil in manageable quantities
  • Gravel
  • Small stones
  • Bark
  • Wood chippings
  • Leaves
  • Grass cuttings
  • Weeds
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Plant material
  • Small twigs
  • Used compost
  • Empty gardening-product packaging

Wet soil, grass and leaves can become considerably heavier than the same materials when dry. Therefore, allow wet garden waste to drain where appropriate before filling the sack.

Cut branches into manageable lengths and protect pointed ends that could puncture the material.

Always check whether your local authority or garden-waste contractor accepts black polythene sacks before using them for a collection.

Commercial and Industrial Applications

These sacks may also support suitable waste-management tasks in:

  • Factories
  • Warehouses
  • Workshops
  • Distribution centres
  • Maintenance departments
  • Retail refurbishment projects
  • Facilities-management operations
  • Property-management companies
  • Schools and colleges
  • Hospitality premises
  • Exhibition venues
  • Commercial landscaping businesses
  • Construction sites
  • Decorating companies
  • House-clearance services

The extra-heavy-duty film provides a practical option for suitable waste that is too dense, rough or bulky for a conventional light-duty bin liner.

Nevertheless, the sack should not replace an approved specialist container where the waste presents a chemical, biological, fire or puncture hazard.

Materials These Sacks Should Not Contain

Do not use these rubble sacks for:

  • Asbestos or suspected asbestos
  • Clinical or infectious waste
  • Exposed needles or blades
  • Unprotected broken glass
  • Sharp metal offcuts
  • Hot ashes or embers
  • Heated equipment
  • Flammable substances
  • Solvents
  • Corrosive chemicals
  • Free-flowing liquids
  • Leaking containers
  • Batteries requiring separate disposal
  • Electrical equipment
  • Gas cylinders
  • Pressurised containers
  • Materials requiring UN-certified packaging
  • Waste requiring a regulated or colour-coded sack
  • Large individual objects that could tear the material
  • Excessive quantities of dense rubble

Hazardous, clinical, sharp or chemically aggressive materials require suitable specialist containers and approved disposal procedures.

The open top does not create a watertight or leakproof closure. Therefore, never use these sacks to contain liquids or leaking waste.

Sharp and Abrasive Debris

Rubble commonly includes jagged, pointed or abrasive pieces that can damage flexible packaging.

Although the 500-gauge film provides an extra-heavy-duty specification, it is not puncture-proof or cut-proof.

Where possible:

  • Remove exposed nails and screws
  • Wrap sharp corners
  • Place broken glass in a rigid container
  • Position flatter surfaces against the sack
  • Avoid forcing oversized pieces through the opening
  • Do not drag the sack after filling
  • Keep debris away from the gathered top
  • Inspect the sack before lifting

If the waste contains a large quantity of sharp metal, glass or jagged material, use a rigid waste container or another specialist disposal system.

Dense Waste and Safe Filling Levels

Rubble, soil, sand, gravel and concrete are considerably denser than ordinary general waste.

As a result, the sack may reach a safe handling weight long before it reaches its full volume.

Do not attempt to fill every rubble sack to the top. Instead, stop when the load reaches a manageable level for the intended handling method.

The correct filling level depends on:

  • The density of the material
  • The shape of the debris
  • The distance the sack must be moved
  • The number of people available
  • The lifting equipment provided
  • The condition of the ground
  • Your organisation’s manual-handling assessment

If the sack becomes heavier than expected, remove some of the contents or divide the material between additional bags.

How to Choose the Correct Black Rubble Sacks

Measure the materials or container before selecting a sack.

When placing rigid debris inside, consider the complete width, depth and height of the largest pieces. Allow clearance around sharp corners and irregular edges.

When using the sack inside a holder or bin, measure the container’s external width, depth and height. Make sure the sack can reach the bottom without being stretched tightly.

The 500mm width is measured while the sack lies flat. It does not represent the diameter of a round container or the usable width after the bag has expanded around the contents.

Also allow enough unused material at the top to gather and close the sack.

If you are unsure whether the size or thickness suits your application, request a sample before ordering several boxes.

How to Open and Position Black Rubble Sacks

Remove one sack from the box and locate the open end.

Separate the sides carefully without pulling sharply against the seams. Next, inspect the sack for holes, cuts, weak areas or other damage.

If using the bag independently, place it inside a suitable holder or on a clean, stable surface while filling.

When fitting it into a container, guide the sealed base towards the bottom and position the material evenly. Avoid stretching it tightly across the rim.

Check the container for exposed screws, sharp edges, damaged fittings or rough surfaces that could catch the sack.

Filling the Rubble Sack Safely

Add suitable waste gradually and distribute the weight as evenly as possible.

Place flatter pieces near the bottom and avoid dropping heavy debris into the sack from a height. Impact against the sealed base may cause damage even when the object has no sharp edge.

Do not throw bricks, tiles or concrete directly into an unsupported sack.

Furthermore, never compress rubble using your hands or feet. Hidden sharp objects may cause injury, while excessive pressure can puncture the film.

Keep the load below the top edge and leave sufficient material for gathering and closure.

Stop filling immediately if the sack becomes stretched, punctured or difficult to keep upright.

Closing the Sack

Gather the open top carefully after filling.

Secure it using a suitable sack tie, cable tie or knot where enough material remains. Separate ties may be required because the sacks do not include an integral closure.

Do not overfill the bag and then attempt to force the top closed. Overfilling places unnecessary pressure on the film, seams and closure area.

Make sure no sharp object projects through the gathered top.

Where the waste needs identification, attach a suitable label that will remain visible during handling and collection.

Lifting and Moving Filled Rubble Sacks

Inspect the material and seams before attempting to lift a filled sack.

Follow your organisation’s manual-handling procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment for the waste involved.

Support the sack from underneath where safe and practical. Do not rely entirely on the gathered top when moving dense or bulky contents.

Use a trolley, wheelbarrow or suitable mechanical aid where the load cannot be handled safely by one person.

Never drag a filled sack across:

  • Concrete
  • Gravel
  • Rough flooring
  • Building debris
  • Tarmac
  • External paving
  • Sharp thresholds

Dragging creates abrasion that can weaken or puncture the material.

If the sack becomes damaged or unsafe to move, transfer the contents into another suitable container using an approved method.

Reusing Black Rubble Sacks

The extra-heavy-duty construction may allow a sack to be reused when it remains clean, dry and undamaged.

Before reuse, inspect:

  • The sealed base
  • The side edges
  • The area around the opening
  • Creased or stretched sections
  • Previous punctures
  • Abrasion marks
  • Contamination from earlier contents
  • Damage caused during storage

Do not reuse a sack that has contained hazardous, chemically contaminated or unknown materials.

Previous use can reduce the bag’s performance. Therefore, select a new sack where reliable containment is particularly important.

Never repair a rubble sack and assume that it will provide the same performance as an undamaged product.

Supplied in Boxes of 100 Black Rubble Sacks

We supply these 500-gauge black rubble sacks in boxes of 100 bags.

This quantity provides a convenient stock level for builders, tradespeople, landscapers, property-maintenance teams, warehouses and commercial users with regular waste-management requirements.

Boxed storage keeps unused sacks together and helps protect them from dirt, moisture and unnecessary handling.

Store opened boxes in a clean, dry and designated stock area. Additionally, keep them away from direct heat, naked flames, sharp tools and prolonged sunlight.

Rotate supplies so that older stock is used first.

The sales unit is one complete box containing 100 sacks. Therefore, check the required number of boxes carefully before placing your order.

Why Choose Our 500-Gauge Black Rubble Sacks?

Our black rubble sacks combine an extra-heavy-duty material specification, practical dimensions and opaque black presentation.

The 500mm x 750mm size suits a wide range of building, renovation, landscaping and commercial clearance tasks.

Meanwhile, the 500-gauge / approximately 125-micron polythene provides additional thickness for appropriate rubble and demanding waste applications.

The sacks contain 30% recycled material, helping reduce the proportion of virgin polymer required during manufacture.

Finally, boxes of 100 provide a practical supply for tradespeople, contractors and organisations that use rubble sacks regularly.

What Are Black Rubble Sacks Also Known As?

People may also refer to these sacks as:

Food Contact Information

These black rubble sacks are intended for building, landscaping, maintenance and waste-management applications.

Do not use them to store, wrap or transport unpackaged food unless current product documentation explicitly confirms suitability for direct food contact.

Polythene construction does not automatically mean that a product complies with food-contact requirements. Additionally, recycled-content material should not be assumed suitable for direct contact with food.

Food businesses may use these sacks for appropriate back-of-house maintenance or non-food waste, provided they follow their hygiene, allergen-control, pest-control and waste-separation procedures.

If you require confirmation for a particular application or need a Food Safety Certificate, please email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk before ordering.

PPWR Compliance Information

Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on Packaging and Packaging Waste, commonly known as the PPWR, applies from 12 August 2026 to packaging placed on the EU market.

We can provide available product specifications and supporting information to help customers complete their compliance assessments. However, polythene construction, recycled content or potential recyclability alone does not confirm full PPWR compliance.

The responsible economic operator must assess the product and its intended use against all applicable requirements, including packaging minimisation, substances of concern, material composition, recycled content, recyclability, labelling and technical documentation.

Customers intending to place these products on the EU market should email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk to request the latest available documentation and confirm suitability before making a recycled-content, recyclability or PPWR compliance claim.

Material and Responsible Disposal

These sacks use flexible black polythene containing 30% recycled material.

Sacks filled with rubble or contaminated building waste are normally disposed of together with their contents through an appropriate commercial or construction-waste stream.

Clean and unused sacks may suit a specialist flexible-plastic recycling service, depending on the facilities available in your area.

However, many household kerbside collections do not accept plastic sacks or flexible films. Contamination with plaster, mortar, soil, chemicals, paint or general building waste may also prevent recycling.

Do not place construction waste into a household recycling collection unless your local authority explicitly accepts it.

Always follow the guidance provided by your local authority, facilities manager, licensed waste carrier or commercial waste contractor.

Important Safety Information

Keep unused sacks away from babies and young children because flexible bag material can present a suffocation risk. Never use the sacks as toys, protective clothing or bedding.

Store unused sacks in a clean, dry place away from direct heat, naked flames and prolonged sunlight. Polythene can melt or burn when exposed to high temperatures.

Never place hot ashes, embers or heated materials into the sacks.

Do not overload the bags or use them for contents that exceed the capability of the material or seams.

Protect the film from exposed nails, sharp metal, broken glass and jagged edges. Furthermore, inspect every filled sack before lifting.

Wear appropriate protective equipment for the materials being handled. Depending on the application, this may include gloves, safety footwear, eye protection and suitable workwear.

Always follow your organisation’s manual-handling, site-safety and waste-disposal procedures.

Sample Requests

To request a sample, please email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk or call 0121 622 2347.

A small charge applies only to sample bags wider than 600mm. As these sacks have a nominal width of 500mm, this width-related sample charge should not apply. Our sales team will confirm the sample arrangements before sending it.

Illustration Only

Rubble, tools, bins, building materials, landscaping waste and accessories shown in our product images demonstrate potential applications only and are not included with the sacks.

Building and landscaping waste varies considerably in size, shape, density and weight. Therefore, check every application carefully and avoid filling the sack beyond a safe handling level.

The product photographs provide a general representation of the black polythene material. Lighting, reflections, screen settings and the number of film layers may affect how the colour and finish appear.
