Ancona Safety Glasses

Our Ancona Safety Glasses provide ultra-lightweight eye protection for suitable low-impact workplace and general-use applications.

The polycarbonate wraparound lens helps protect the front and sides of the eye area while maintaining a lightweight design. In addition, the one-piece side arms create a simple construction that supports comfortable everyday use.

The lens provides 99.9% UV protection and includes a scratch-resistant finish. However, scratch resistant does not mean scratch proof, so users should handle, clean and store the glasses carefully.

These safety glasses conform to EN166:2001, Optical Class 1 and FT low-energy impact requirements at extreme temperatures.

Product appearance and fit may vary slightly. Users should inspect the markings and supplied product information before use.

Ultra-Lightweight Ancona Safety Glasses

The ultra-lightweight construction helps reduce the bulk associated with heavier protective eyewear.

This design can benefit employees who need to wear safety glasses throughout routine packing, inspection, assembly or warehouse tasks. Furthermore, lightweight eyewear may feel less restrictive during extended periods of suitable use.

Comfort remains individual, so each user should check the fit before beginning work. The glasses should remain securely positioned without causing excessive pressure.

Ultra-lightweight construction does not change the stated protection level. Always select protective eyewear according to the workplace risk assessment rather than weight or comfort alone.

Polycarbonate Wraparound Lens

The polycarbonate wraparound lens provides coverage across the front and sides of the eye area.

This design can help reduce gaps compared with flat-fronted fashion eyewear. Consequently, it supports protection against suitable low-energy particles approaching from different angles.

However, wraparound safety glasses do not form a sealed barrier around the eyes. They should not replace sealed safety goggles where the task involves:

  • Chemical splashes
  • Fine airborne dust
  • Gas
  • Vapour
  • Smoke
  • Biological fluids
  • Pressurised liquids
  • Molten materials
  • High-impact particles

Complete a suitable risk assessment before selecting the required type of eye protection.

99.9% UV Protection

The lens provides 99.9% UV protection according to the supplied product specification.

This feature helps protect the eyes during suitable indoor and outdoor activities involving ultraviolet exposure. It can therefore support employees who regularly move between warehouse, yard and delivery areas.

UV protection does not mean that the glasses provide protection against every form of optical radiation. They have not been specified for welding, lasers, intense light sources or specialist radiation hazards.

Select task-specific protective eyewear where the application involves a regulated optical hazard.

Scratch-Resistant Lens

The scratch-resistant lens helps reduce damage caused by ordinary handling and regular use.

Nevertheless, no lens remains completely scratch proof. Contact with abrasive dust, rough surfaces or unsuitable cleaning materials may still mark the polycarbonate.

To help protect the lens:

  • Store the glasses separately from sharp tools
  • Avoid placing them lens-down
  • Remove loose particles before wiping
  • Use a soft, clean cloth
  • Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning guidance
  • Replace glasses with damaged or heavily scratched lenses

Scratches can affect visibility and may make the glasses unsuitable for safe continued use.

One-Piece Side Arms

The one-piece side arms support the lightweight and uncomplicated design of the glasses.

Before use, check that the arms remain secure and undamaged. The glasses should sit comfortably and remain in position when the user moves their head normally.

The one-piece design has no confirmed adjustment mechanism. Therefore, do not bend, heat or modify the side arms to change the fit.

Modification may damage the glasses and affect their protective performance.

EN166:2001 Compliance

The Ancona Safety Glasses conform to EN166:2001 for personal eye protection.

EN166 covers general requirements for protective eyewear, including optical quality, construction and relevant mechanical performance classifications.

The stated conformity applies to the product in its supplied condition. Users should check the product markings and accompanying information before use.

Do not modify the glasses, drill the lens or replace components with unapproved parts. Alterations may invalidate the stated protective performance.

Optical Class 1

Optical Class 1 indicates that the lens meets the class intended for continuous or extended wear under the EN166 classification system.

The clear optical quality supports tasks where users need to maintain visibility while wearing protective eyewear.

However, users should stop work if the lens becomes:

  • Scratched
  • Clouded
  • Contaminated
  • Distorted
  • Cracked
  • Loose
  • Difficult to see through

Clean or replace the glasses before continuing the task.

FT Low-Impact Classification

The FT marking confirms low-energy impact protection at extreme temperatures under the stated EN166:2001 classification.

The letter F relates to low-energy impact performance, while T indicates testing at extreme temperatures.

This classification does not mean the glasses provide medium-impact or high-impact protection. Do not use them for tasks where the risk assessment requires a higher mechanical strength rating.

Applications involving high-speed machinery, grinding, cutting or forceful particle projection may require different protective eyewear or a face shield.

Choosing Ancona Safety Glasses

Choose protective eyewear according to the task, environment and hazards identified by the workplace risk assessment.

Before selecting these glasses, consider:

  • Particle size
  • Particle speed
  • Direction of impact
  • Temperature
  • UV exposure
  • Chemical exposure
  • Dust levels
  • Required side protection
  • Length of wear
  • Compatibility with other PPE
  • Whether sealed goggles are necessary
  • Whether a face shield is also required

Low-impact glasses may suit many routine tasks. However, they should not be selected for higher-risk work simply because they feel comfortable or lightweight.

Checking the Fit

Place the glasses over the eyes and make sure the wraparound lens covers the intended area.

Check that:

  • The glasses sit securely
  • The lens remains in front of both eyes
  • The side arms rest correctly
  • The glasses do not slide during normal movement
  • Vision remains clear
  • The product does not interfere with other PPE
  • No damaged area contacts the face
  • The fit remains comfortable

Different facial shapes may affect coverage. Therefore, employers should confirm that the selected eyewear fits each user correctly.

Using Ancona Safety Glasses with Other PPE

Users may need to wear these glasses with other protective equipment, including:

  • Safety helmets
  • Hearing protection
  • Dust masks
  • Respiratory protective equipment
  • Protective clothing
  • Gloves

Check that each item remains correctly positioned when worn together. One piece of PPE should not displace another or create an unsafe gap.

Where a face shield is required, safety glasses may form part of the overall protection system. However, they do not automatically replace the additional eye or face protection specified by the risk assessment.

Inspecting Ancona Safety Glasses

Inspect the glasses before every use.

Check the following areas:

  • Lens
  • Side arms
  • Nose area
  • Edges
  • Product markings
  • Overall fit

Do not use the glasses if the lens has cracks, deep scratches, distortion or severe contamination. Likewise, replace them if the arms become loose, bent or damaged.

A damaged pair may not provide the expected coverage or protection.

Cleaning Ancona Safety Glasses

Remove loose dust before wiping the lens because trapped particles may cause scratches.

Where appropriate, clean the glasses using lukewarm water, mild soap and a soft cloth. Rinse away residue and allow the glasses to dry naturally.

Avoid:

  • Abrasive cloths
  • Scouring materials
  • Strong solvents
  • Unverified chemical cleaners
  • Excessive heat
  • Sharp scraping tools
  • Paper containing rough fibres

Follow any cleaning instructions supplied with the product. Replace the glasses if cleaning does not restore clear vision.

Storing Ancona Safety Glasses

Store the glasses in a clean, dry location away from direct sunlight, excessive heat and contamination.

Where possible, keep them inside a suitable case or clean storage area. Do not place tools, components or heavy objects on top of the glasses.

Avoid storing the product with chemicals or abrasive materials. Additionally, do not leave the lens facing down on a workbench.

Correct storage helps protect the scratch-resistant lens and reduces unnecessary damage between uses.

When to Replace Ancona Safety Glasses

Replace the glasses if:

  • The lens becomes deeply scratched
  • Vision becomes distorted
  • The lens cracks
  • The side arms become damaged
  • The glasses no longer fit securely
  • Impact damages the product
  • Heat distorts the frame
  • Chemicals affect the lens
  • Product markings become unreadable
  • The glasses no longer provide suitable coverage

After a significant impact, remove the glasses from service even if the damage does not appear obvious.

Protective eyewear should remain clear, secure and appropriate for the task.

Important Protection Limitations

These glasses provide low-impact eye protection to the stated specification. They are not suitable for every hazard.

Do not rely on them as protection against:

  • Medium-energy impact
  • High-energy impact
  • Chemical splashes
  • Gas and vapour
  • Fine dust requiring sealed eyewear
  • Molten metal
  • Hot solids
  • Welding radiation
  • Laser radiation
  • Electrical arcs
  • Biological splash hazards
  • Any application requiring sealed goggles
  • Any hazard requiring a full-face shield

Always follow the workplace risk assessment and relevant safety procedures.

Food Safety Information

The glasses are not intended for direct food contact.

Where employees use them in food-production or food-handling environments, businesses should include the glasses within their hygiene, cleaning and contamination-control procedures.

Inspect the eyewear regularly and replace damaged components or complete glasses where they could create a contamination risk.

Suitability for a particular food-production environment will depend on the workplace risk assessment and hygiene requirements.
