Heat Sealer IS500 Kit – Tape and Wire

Our Heat Sealer IS500 Kit contains the replacement tape and wire required to maintain compatible IS500 and IS500C impulse heat sealers.

Each complete kit includes one sealing element, two upper sealing strips and one lower sealing strip. Together, these components replace the main wearing parts located across the machine’s sealing area.

The components suit machines with a 500mm, or approximately 19.69-inch, sealing length. However, they do not automatically fit every 500mm impulse heat sealer. Therefore, confirm that your machine is an IS500 or IS500C before ordering.

The kit does not include a replacement cutter blade. Consequently, IS500C users can replace the sealing tape and wire with this kit, but they will need a separate compatible blade if the cutting component also requires replacement.

Check the model number on the heat sealer before ordering. Although several machines may have a 500mm sealing capacity, different models can use different element fittings, strip sizes and internal arrangements.

When fitting this kit to an IS500C machine, remember that it services the heat-sealing components only. It does not replace or maintain the integrated cutting blade.

What the Heat Sealer IS500 Kit Includes

Each complete replacement kit contains:

  • 1 x sealing element
  • 2 x upper sealing strips
  • 1 x lower sealing strip

The sealing element creates the heat required to join compatible packaging film. Meanwhile, the upper and lower strips help protect the element and provide a smoother sealing surface.

The two upper strips provide additional replacement material for the part of the sealing area that experiences direct contact with the packaging film. However, installation requirements may vary, so follow the applicable machine instructions.

A cutter blade does not form part of this kit.

Heat Sealer IS500 Kit Compatibility

The Heat Sealer IS500 Kit suits the following machines:

  • IS500 impulse heat sealer without a cutter
  • IS500C impulse heat sealer with an integrated cutter

Both machines use a 500mm, or approximately 19.69-inch, sealing area. This kit replaces the tape and heating element used by the sealing assembly.

However, the kit does not contain a cutter blade. Therefore, it can maintain the sealing function of an IS500C but cannot replace a worn or damaged cutting blade.

Do not select the kit solely because another machine has a 500mm sealing length. Different manufacturers and machine ranges may use elements with different connectors, tension requirements or strip dimensions.

Before ordering:

  1. Locate the model number on the machine.
  2. Confirm that the model is IS500 or IS500C.
  3. Check whether the sealing element, strips or cutter require replacement.
  4. Compare the existing sealing components with the product image.
  5. Contact us if the identification label is missing or unclear.

Heat Sealer IS500 Kit Sealing Element

The replacement sealing element provides the heat required to seal compatible polythene bags and layflat tubing.

When the operator closes the machine, electrical energy passes through the element for the selected sealing period. The heated element then transfers energy through the protective strip and into the packaging material.

Repeated heating and cooling gradually place stress on the element. Consequently, it may eventually stretch, distort, break or stop heating consistently.

This kit contains one replacement element for the 500mm sealing area. Handle it carefully and avoid bending, twisting or sharply folding it before installation.

Incorrect positioning or excessive tension may affect the element’s performance. Therefore, follow the machine’s maintenance instructions when fitting the replacement.

Heat Sealer IS500 Kit Upper Strips

The upper sealing strips cover and protect the heating element while providing a smoother contact surface for the packaging film.

Repeated use can cause an upper strip to become:

  • Worn
  • Creased
  • Torn
  • Discoloured
  • Burnt
  • Loose
  • Contaminated with melted film

The kit includes two upper sealing strips. Apply the required strip smoothly across the sealing area without unnecessary folds, wrinkles or bubbles.

A damaged upper strip can expose the element or produce an uneven sealing surface. Therefore, inspect it regularly and replace it when signs of wear begin to affect performance.

Keep any unused strip inside its protective packaging until required.

Heat Sealer IS500 Kit Lower Strip

The lower sealing strip sits beneath the element within the machine’s sealing assembly.

It helps separate the heating element from the machine body and supports a consistent sealing surface. However, regular heating cycles can gradually wear or damage the strip.

The kit contains one replacement lower sealing strip. Inspect the area beneath the old element before installing the replacement because hidden heat damage or residue may remain after removing the upper strip.

Fit the lower strip according to the machine’s original arrangement. Afterwards, make sure it lies flat before positioning the new element.

When to Replace the Heat Sealer IS500 Kit

Inspect the sealing area regularly rather than waiting for the machine to stop working completely.

Replacement may become necessary if you notice:

  • A broken sealing element
  • An element that no longer heats
  • Uneven heat across the sealing line
  • Weak or incomplete seals
  • Burnt or discoloured sealing strips
  • Torn, creased or peeling tape
  • Film sticking to the sealing area
  • Gaps across completed seals
  • Irregular sealing results
  • Excessive sparking
  • A displaced heating element
  • The need for unusually high timer settings

A sealing problem does not always mean the tape or element has failed. Film type, material thickness, contamination and incorrect timer settings can also affect the result.

Therefore, inspect the machine and packaging material before replacing components.

Installing the Heat Sealer IS500 Kit

Disconnect the heat sealer from the electrical supply and allow it to cool completely before beginning maintenance.

Always follow the operating and maintenance instructions supplied with the machine. If you are not confident about fitting replacement components, ask a suitably competent person to complete the work.

A typical replacement process may involve:

  1. Switching off and disconnecting the heat sealer.
  2. Allowing the sealing area to cool completely.
  3. Removing the worn upper sealing strip.
  4. Releasing the existing element from its connections.
  5. Inspecting the lower strip and surrounding surfaces.
  6. Removing the worn lower strip where necessary.
  7. Cleaning the sealing area carefully.
  8. Fitting the new lower strip.
  9. Positioning and securing the replacement element.
  10. Applying a new upper strip smoothly.
  11. Checking that every component remains correctly aligned.
  12. Reconnecting and testing the machine at a low setting.

The precise replacement process may vary according to the machine version. Therefore, treat these steps as general guidance and follow the applicable instructions for your equipment.

Fitting the Heat Sealer IS500 Kit Wire

Handle the long replacement element carefully. In particular, avoid sharp bends because these may weaken the wire before use.

Position the element straight across the complete 500mm sealing area. It should not twist, overlap or make contact with unsuitable parts of the machine.

Secure the element using the correct connections and tension. However, do not stretch it excessively or modify the terminals to make it fit.

Once the element sits correctly, apply an upper protective strip. The strip should cover the required sealing area and prevent the packaging film from contacting the exposed element.

Do not reconnect the heat sealer until you have checked the complete installation.

Applying the Heat Sealer IS500 Kit Strips

Remove residue and loose pieces of worn material before fitting the replacement strips. However, avoid scraping the machine with a sharp metal blade because this could damage the sealing surface or electrical components.

Fit the lower strip first where the machine’s design requires it. Then position the element according to the original arrangement.

Finally, apply an upper strip smoothly across the element. Avoid:

  • Creases
  • Air pockets
  • Folded edges
  • Loose sections
  • Excessive overlap
  • Exposed heating wire

A smooth strip creates a more even surface for the bag or tubing. As a result, it can support more consistent sealing across the wider 500mm area.

Store the second upper strip carefully so it remains clean and undamaged until required.

Testing the Heat Sealer IS500 Kit After Installation

Inspect the completed installation before reconnecting the heat sealer.

Start with a low timer setting and use a clean offcut of compatible packaging material. Then increase the setting gradually until the machine produces a suitable seal.

Check that:

  • The element heats across its complete 500mm length
  • The film releases from the sealing area
  • The seal appears straight and continuous
  • No section burns through the film
  • The upper and lower strips remain in position
  • The element does not move
  • No sparking occurs
  • No unusual noise or smell develops

Pay particular attention to both ends and the centre of the sealing line. A longer element must sit evenly across its complete length to produce a consistent seal.

Stop using the machine immediately if the element sparks, moves or heats unevenly. Disconnect it from the electrical supply and inspect the installation before completing another test.

Maintaining the Heat Sealer IS500 Kit Components

Regular cleaning and inspection can help extend the service life of the replacement element and strips.

Disconnect the machine and allow it to cool before removing melted film or residue. Then clean the sealing area using a suitable non-abrasive method.

Use the lowest timer setting that produces a reliable seal. Excessive heat places unnecessary strain on the element and protective strips.

Furthermore, keep the bag opening clean and flat. Moisture, dust, grease and loose product can interfere with the sealing process and encourage operators to use unnecessarily high settings.

Allow the completed seal to cool briefly under pressure before raising the arm. This can improve the sealing result without requiring additional heat.

Improving Heat-Sealer Performance

Several factors can affect the quality of a seal, including:

  • Film composition
  • Film thickness
  • Multiple material layers
  • Gussets and folds
  • Moisture or dust
  • Product trapped in the sealing area
  • Incorrect timer settings
  • Insufficient cooling time
  • A worn element
  • Damaged sealing strips
  • Incorrect element installation

Before fitting the kit, confirm that the packaging material remains compatible with the machine. Afterwards, test the new components using the same bag or tubing under controlled conditions.

If the sealing problem continues after correct installation, stop using the machine and arrange further inspection. The fault may involve the timer, wiring, connections or another component that the replacement kit does not contain.

Using the Heat Sealer IS500 Kit with the IS500C

The Heat Sealer IS500 Kit can replace the tape and sealing element in an IS500C heat sealer with an integrated cutter.

However, the kit does not include a replacement cutting blade. Therefore, it will not resolve poor cutting performance, a blunt blade or damage to the cutting assembly.

Before servicing an IS500C, determine whether the problem affects:

  • The sealing element
  • The upper or lower strips
  • The integrated cutter
  • The timer or electrical system
  • The operating arm or mechanism

Use this kit when the sealing components require replacement. If the cutter also needs attention, obtain the correct compatible blade or cutter maintenance components separately.

Heat Sealer Maintenance Safety

Always disconnect the machine from the electrical supply before removing the element or protective strips.

The sealing area may remain hot after use. Consequently, allow the equipment to cool completely before touching its internal components.

Do not:

  • Replace components while the machine remains connected
  • Touch a recently heated element
  • Test the element without the required protective strip
  • Fit damaged or distorted parts
  • Modify the electrical connections
  • Use an incompatible element
  • Operate the machine if it sparks
  • Leave loose tape around the sealing area
  • Allow untrained users to perform electrical repairs

The replacement kit contains consumable components. It does not repair every mechanical or electrical fault.

If the machine displays damage beyond normal tape or element wear, arrange an inspection by a suitably competent person.

Important Limitations

The Heat Sealer IS500 Kit contains replacement consumable components rather than a complete heat-sealing machine.

It does not include:

  • An IS500 heat sealer
  • An IS500C heat sealer
  • A cutter blade
  • A cutter assembly
  • Electrical controls
  • A timer
  • A plug or power cable
  • Installation tools
  • Polythene bags
  • Layflat tubing
  • Components for every 500mm heat sealer

The kit contains one sealing element, two upper sealing strips and one lower sealing strip.

Although it suits the IS500C sealing assembly, it does not maintain or replace the integrated cutter.

Storing the Heat Sealer IS500 Kit

Keep the components inside their protective packaging until required.

Store the kit in a clean and dry location away from moisture, dust, direct heat and sharp objects. Additionally, avoid placing heavy items on the long sealing element because this may bend or distort it.

Do not tightly fold or coil the element. Instead, retain its original shape wherever possible.

Keep the unused upper strip flat and protected from contamination. Furthermore, label the replacement kit clearly and store it near the relevant IS500 or IS500C machine.
