Extra-Heavy-Duty Black Compactor Sacks

Our 400-gauge black compactor sacks provide a large and robust waste-management solution for compatible commercial compactor bins and extractor systems.

Their generous 26 x 42.5 x 61-inch dimensions accommodate bulky quantities of general commercial and industrial refuse. The flexible side-gusseted construction expands around suitable waste while the extended height provides material for fitting, filling and closing.

The black film conceals the contents, helping workplaces maintain a tidy and discreet waste-handling system. This makes the sacks suitable for locations where visible refuse would be undesirable.

At approximately 100 microns thick, the 400-gauge material provides an extra-heavy-duty specification for demanding applications. However, thickness alone does not guarantee a particular carrying capacity. Suitability also depends on the type, shape, weight and distribution of the contents.

These sacks contain 30% recycled material and are supplied in boxes of 50 bags.

Black Compactor Sacks 400g  Size and Specification

The product specification is:

  • Nominal imperial size: 26 x 42.5 x 61 inches
  • Approximate metric size: 660mm x 1080mm x 1549mm
  • Measurement order: face width x total open width x height
  • Material thickness: 400 gauge
  • Approximate thickness: 100 microns
  • Colour: black
  • Duty: extra heavy duty
  • Construction: side gussets with no bottom gusset
  • Recycled content: 30%
  • Closure: open top
  • Box quantity: 50 sacks

The dimensions are nominal manufacturing measurements, so small production tolerances may apply.

The metric measurements are approximate conversions from the original imperial specification. Use the inch measurements when you require the closest match to the stated product size.

Understanding the Sack Measurements

The 26-inch / approximately 660mm measurement represents the face width of the sack while it lies flat.

The 42.5-inch / approximately 1080mm measurement represents the total open width, including the material folded into the side gussets. The sack can therefore expand beyond its visible face width when opened.

The 61-inch / approximately 1549mm measurement represents the height from the sealed bottom to the open top.

Part of the 42.5-inch total width forms the side gussets. It should not be treated as the width of one completely flat front panel.

Bulky waste also uses some of the available width and height as the sack expands around it. A rigid object measuring close to the complete stated dimensions may therefore not fit comfortably.

Allow sufficient clearance for the sack to fit around the container, fold over the rim where required and close after filling.

Side Gussets with No Bottom Gusset

These sacks incorporate folded material within the sides. When the sack opens, the side gussets expand to create additional internal capacity.

The expanding construction helps the bag adapt around soft, bulky and irregularly shaped waste. This can be particularly useful inside compatible compactor bins and large commercial waste containers.

The sack does not include a bottom gusset. Its base is formed by the sealed lower edge rather than an expanding bottom fold.

Open the side gussets fully before fitting the sack. An unopened fold can restrict the available capacity and place unnecessary strain on the material or seams.

Although gussets provide additional volume, they do not make the sack resistant to every sharp, rigid or abrasive item. Protect or separately contain objects that could puncture the film.

Designed for Compatible Compactor Bins

The large format makes these sacks suitable for many commercial compactor bins, extractor systems and high-capacity waste containers.

They may be used in:

  • Warehouses
  • Factories
  • Distribution centres
  • Hotels
  • Restaurants
  • Shopping centres
  • Retail stockrooms
  • Conference venues
  • Schools and colleges
  • Healthcare administration areas
  • Office buildings
  • Cleaning departments
  • Facilities-management operations
  • Manufacturing sites
  • Commercial kitchens for appropriate waste
  • Exhibition centres

Compactor equipment differs considerably in capacity, opening size, extraction method and operating pressure. A product described as a compactor sack is not automatically compatible with every machine.

Check the equipment manufacturer’s instructions and measure the receiving container before ordering.

Use Around Compaction Equipment

Only trained and authorised personnel should operate waste-compaction equipment.

Fit the sack while the equipment is switched off, isolated or placed in the safe loading condition specified by the manufacturer. Never reach into moving machinery or bypass guards, interlocks and safety systems.

Make sure the sack is positioned evenly and does not obstruct sensors, doors, moving plates or other mechanical parts.

The amount of compaction applied can affect the material and seams. Excessive pressure, unsuitable waste or uneven loading may puncture the sack even though it uses extra-heavy-duty film.

Never attempt to free trapped material, adjust the liner or reposition waste while the compactor is operating. Follow the equipment manufacturer’s procedures for installation, use, emptying and maintenance.

Opaque Black Appearance

The opaque black material conceals the collected waste more effectively than clear or translucent alternatives.

This helps maintain a neat appearance in customer-facing locations, loading areas, hospitality venues and shared commercial environments.

The black colour can also help organisations distinguish general refuse from recycling streams that use clear, coloured or printed sacks.

However, staff cannot inspect the contents through the material. Waste should therefore be separated correctly before it enters the sack.

Always follow your organisation’s colour-coding system and the collection requirements set by your local authority or commercial waste contractor.

Extra-Heavy-Duty 400-Gauge Material

These compactor sacks use 400-gauge polythene, equivalent to approximately 100 microns.

This extra-heavy-duty specification provides additional material thickness for demanding commercial waste applications and the pressures associated with suitable compactor systems.

However, gauge measures the approximate thickness of the film rather than a guaranteed load capacity. Performance also depends on:

  • The formulation of the polythene
  • The construction of the seams
  • The size and shape of the waste
  • The total weight of the contents
  • How evenly the waste is distributed
  • The presence of sharp or projecting edges
  • The degree of compaction
  • The operating condition of the equipment
  • The temperature of the contents
  • The method used to remove the sack
  • The distance over which it is moved
  • Whether the sack is dragged over rough surfaces
  • The condition of the sack before use

A large or bulky object may fit inside while still being too heavy, rigid or sharp for safe containment.

Select a specialist container when handling waste that could cut, puncture, burn or chemically damage polythene.

Contains 30% Recycled Material

The polythene contains 30% recycled material, reducing the proportion of virgin polymer required for its manufacture.

Recycled polythene can vary slightly in shade, surface appearance and finish between production batches. These variations are normal characteristics of recycled-content film and do not necessarily indicate a manufacturing fault.

The black colour helps provide a consistent opaque appearance while accommodating recycled material within the film.

Do not make claims beyond the stated 30% recycled content unless current supporting documentation confirms them.

Customers requiring technical data or evidence for an environmental assessment should email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk before ordering or publishing a recycled-content claim.

Suitable Waste Applications

These sacks are intended for suitable non-hazardous commercial, industrial and general waste.

Typical contents may include:

  • Paper
  • Lightweight cardboard
  • Plastic wrapping
  • Empty packaging
  • Product wrappers
  • Disposable cleaning materials
  • General office rubbish
  • Retail packaging waste
  • Hospitality refuse
  • Dry housekeeping waste
  • Soft production offcuts
  • Textile offcuts
  • Lightweight manufacturing waste
  • Bulky but compressible materials
  • Mixed general commercial refuse

The sack’s large capacity and extra-heavy-duty film make it useful for environments that generate substantial quantities of appropriate waste.

Nevertheless, do not assume that every material can be compacted safely. Check the waste type against the instructions for both the compactor and the collection service.

Waste These Sacks Should Not Contain

Do not use these compactor sacks for:

  • Broken glass
  • Exposed blades or needles
  • Unprotected sharp metal
  • Clinical or infectious waste
  • Hazardous substances
  • Solvents or corrosive chemicals
  • Hot ashes or embers
  • Heated cooking equipment
  • Free-flowing liquids
  • Leaking containers
  • Rubble or demolition waste
  • Bricks, blocks or concrete
  • Large quantities of soil, sand or gravel
  • Batteries requiring separate disposal
  • Electrical equipment
  • Gas cylinders or pressurised containers
  • Aerosols where compaction is prohibited
  • Waste requiring a regulated or colour-coded container

Never compact pressurised, flammable, reactive, clinical or hazardous materials.

Sharp, hot or chemically aggressive waste requires an appropriate specialist container and approved disposal procedure.

Not a Rubble Sack

Although the 400-gauge film provides an extra-heavy-duty specification, these compactor sacks are not automatically suitable for rubble, bricks, tiles, concrete, soil or other dense construction waste.

Dense materials can create excessive weight before the sack is visibly full. Jagged edges can also puncture the film or damage the bottom seam.

Use a purpose-designed rubble sack, rigid container, skip or another approved system for building and demolition waste.

Similarly, do not use the sack for scrap metal, broken glass or exposed sharp objects unless those materials have been placed inside an appropriate puncture-resistant container.

How to Choose the Correct Compactor Sack Size

Measure the relevant internal and external dimensions of the compactor bin or waste container before selecting a sack.

Check:

  • The width of the opening
  • The depth of the container
  • The height of the container
  • The complete perimeter of the opening
  • The amount of material required to fold over the rim
  • The space needed for gathering and closing the top
  • The manufacturer’s recommended liner size
  • The method used to extract the filled sack

The sack must reach the bottom without being stretched tightly. It should also provide enough material around the opening to remain secure during filling and compaction.

Because part of the 42.5-inch width forms the side gussets, do not treat this dimension as one flat panel width.

If the container dimensions are close to those of the sack, request a sample before ordering multiple boxes.

How to Fit the Compactor Sack

Make sure the equipment is in the safe condition specified by its manufacturer before fitting the sack.

Remove one sack from the box and identify the open end. Separate the sides carefully without pulling sharply against the seams.

Open the side gussets fully, then lower the sealed base towards the bottom of the empty container. Position the sack evenly so it is not twisted or stretched.

Fold the open edge over the rim where the equipment design requires this. Use the manufacturer’s approved retaining system if one is provided.

Check that the film is not caught on rough edges, damaged fittings, bolts or projecting parts. Make sure it does not obstruct the machine’s safety devices or moving components.

Only return the equipment to service once the sack has been fitted correctly and the operating area is clear.

Filling and Compacting Safely

Add suitable waste gradually and distribute it as evenly as the equipment allows.

Avoid placing sharp corners directly against the sack. Do not drop dense or rigid objects onto the bottom seam from a height.

Never push waste down using your hands or feet. Hidden sharp objects can cause injury, while manual compression may damage the sack.

Do not exceed the equipment manufacturer’s maximum fill level or operating limits. Leave enough unused material at the top for gathering and closure after the sack has been removed.

Monitor the sack during use. Stop the equipment if the liner becomes displaced, stretched, trapped or visibly damaged, then follow the approved isolation and inspection procedure.

If the contents become excessively heavy or unsuitable, do not continue compacting them simply because space remains in the sack.

Closing and Removing the Sack

Follow the compactor manufacturer’s instructions before opening the equipment or removing a filled sack.

Gather the open top carefully and close it using a suitable sack tie, cable tie or knot where enough material remains.

The sacks do not include an integral drawstring or adhesive closure. Separate ties may therefore be required.

Large filled compactor sacks can become heavy and awkward to handle. Use the equipment’s approved extraction method and follow your organisation’s manual-handling procedures.

Do not rely entirely on the gathered top when moving the sack. Support the base where safe and practical, or use appropriate handling equipment.

Never drag a filled sack across concrete, rough floors or external surfaces. Abrasion can weaken or puncture the material.

If the sack is damaged, overloaded or unsafe to move, isolate the area and transfer or overpack the waste using an approved method.

Supplied in Boxes of 50 Sacks

We supply these 400-gauge black compactor sacks in boxes of 50 bags.

This quantity provides a practical stock level for warehouses, factories, hospitality businesses, distribution centres, cleaning companies and facilities-management teams.

Boxed storage helps keep unused sacks together and protects them from dust, dirt and unnecessary handling.

Store opened boxes in a clean, dry and designated stock area. Keep them away from heat, naked flames, sharp objects and prolonged sunlight.

Rotate stock so older sacks are used first. The sales unit is one complete box containing 50 sacks, so check the number of boxes required before placing your order.

Why Choose Our Black Compactor Sacks 400g?

Our black compactor sacks combine generous dimensions, extra-heavy-duty film and practical side-gusseted construction.

The 26 x 42.5 x 61-inch format provides substantial capacity for appropriately sized compactor bins, extractor systems and commercial waste containers.

Their 400-gauge / approximately 100-micron thickness suits demanding waste-management applications where a lighter refuse sack may not provide an appropriate specification.

The opaque black film conceals the contents, while the side gussets expand around bulky and irregularly shaped waste.

Each sack contains 30% recycled material, and boxes of 50 provide a convenient supply for organisations with regular high-volume waste requirements.

What Are Black Compactor Sacks Also Known As?

People may also refer to these sacks as:

  • Black compactor bags
  • Compactor bin liners
  • Compactor refuse sacks

Although these terms are often used interchangeably, sacks can differ in dimensions, material thickness, recycled content, gusset construction, seam design and compatibility with compaction equipment.

Always check the complete specification rather than relying on the product name alone.

Food Contact Information

These black compactor sacks are intended for waste-management applications.

Do not use them to store, wrap or transport unpackaged food unless the product specification and supporting documentation explicitly confirm suitability for direct food contact.

Polythene construction does not automatically mean that a product meets food-contact requirements. Recycled-content material should not be assumed suitable for direct contact with food.

Food businesses may use the sacks for appropriate back-of-house waste, provided they follow their hygiene, allergen-control, pest-control and waste-separation procedures.

If you require confirmation for a particular application or need a Food Safety Certificate, please email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk before ordering.

PPWR Compliance Information

Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on Packaging and Packaging Waste, commonly known as the PPWR, applies from 12 August 2026 to packaging placed on the EU market.

We can provide available product specifications and supporting information to help customers complete their compliance assessments. However, polythene construction, recycled content or potential recyclability alone does not confirm full PPWR compliance.

The responsible economic operator must assess the product and its intended use against all applicable requirements, including packaging minimisation, substances of concern, material composition, recycled content, recyclability, labelling and technical documentation.

Customers intending to place these products on the EU market should email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk to request the latest available documentation and confirm suitability before making a recycled-content, recyclability or PPWR compliance claim.

Material and Responsible Disposal

These sacks use flexible black polythene containing 30% recycled material.

Sacks containing general waste are normally disposed of together with their contents through the appropriate commercial waste stream rather than recycled separately.

Clean and unused polythene sacks may suit specialist flexible-plastic recycling services, depending on the facilities available in your area. Many household and commercial collections do not accept plastic bags or flexible films.

Contamination with food, liquids, chemicals or general refuse may prevent recycling.

Always follow the guidance provided by your local authority, facilities manager or commercial waste contractor. Where a sack remains clean and undamaged, consider reusing it before placing it into an appropriate recycling or waste stream.

Important Safety Information

Keep unused sacks away from babies and young children because the flexible material can present a suffocation risk. Never use the sacks as toys, protective clothing or bedding.

Store unused sacks in a clean, dry place away from direct heat, naked flames and prolonged sunlight. Polythene can melt or burn at high temperatures.

Never place hot ashes, embers or heated objects inside the sacks.

Do not overload the sacks or use them for waste that exceeds the capability of the material, seams or associated equipment.

Protect the film from sharp corners, broken objects and abrasive surfaces. Inspect each sack before use and check it again before removal.

Only trained and authorised personnel should operate compaction equipment. Follow all machine-isolation, guarding, manual-handling, hygiene and waste-disposal procedures.

If a filled sack is too heavy, damaged or unsafe to move, do not attempt to lift it manually. Use an approved handling or transfer method.

Sample Requests

To request a sample, please email sales@expresspackaging.co.uk or call 0121 622 2347.

A small charge applies only to sample bags wider than 600mm. As this sack has a nominal face width of approximately 660mm, a sample charge may apply. Our sales team will confirm any charge before sending the sample.

Illustration Only

Compactor bins, waste, machinery, cleaning equipment and accessories shown in our product images demonstrate potential applications only and are not included with the sacks.

Compactors and waste containers vary in width, depth, height, opening design, extraction method and operating pressure. Measure your equipment carefully and consult its manufacturer’s instructions before ordering.

Allow sufficient material for the side gussets to expand, the sack to fit securely and the open top to close after filling.

Product photographs provide a general representation of the black polythene material. Lighting, reflections, screen settings and the number of film layers may affect how the colour and finish appear.
