Cloche Film 1.85m x 200m

Create covered growing areas with this practical Cloche Film, supplied as a complete 1.85m x 200m roll. The generous 200m length provides enough material for multiple cloches, crop rows and seasonal horticultural projects.

The 1.85m width works with many compatible hoops and low growing frames. Furthermore, you can cut individual lengths from the roll according to the size of each covered area.

Once installed, the film helps create a sheltered environment around plants. Consequently, it can reduce their direct exposure to wind, rain and sudden changes in outdoor conditions.

The covering can also help retain warmth around the growing area. However, temperatures beneath cloche coverings can rise quickly during sunny weather. Therefore, regular ventilation and monitoring remain essential.

The coverage figure uses the complete roll dimensions. Therefore, the usable area may reduce once you allow for securing, overlaps, trimming and the curved profile of the supporting frame.

How Cloche Film Supports Growing Areas

Cloche Film creates a physical covering around plants and growing beds. As a result, it can help provide a more sheltered environment than leaving crops completely exposed.

The film may also help retain warmth around the covered area during suitable conditions. This can support seedlings, young plants and crops that benefit from additional protection.

However, a cloche does not create a fully controlled growing environment. Outdoor temperature, sunlight, wind, installation quality and ventilation will all affect the conditions beneath the covering.

Regularly inspect the plants and growing area. In addition, adjust the ventilation and covering position as weather conditions change.

Planning a Cloche Film Installation

Measure the full length of the growing area before cutting the film. Then measure across the complete curved profile of the hoops or supporting frame rather than using only the ground width.

Include enough material to reach and secure both sides. Furthermore, allow additional film at each end so you can close or anchor the covering where required.

The following points may affect the amount needed:

  • Height and width of the hoops
  • Length of the growing row
  • Curved shape of the supporting frame
  • Required ground overlap
  • End closures
  • Securing method
  • Additional ventilation openings
  • Repairs or future replacement sections

Cutting a test section can help confirm the required size before you prepare multiple covers. However, avoid unnecessary waste because material cut from the roll may not suit a later installation.

How to Install Cloche Film

Build or position the compatible cloche hoops before cutting the Cloche Film. Then check that the supporting structure stands securely and does not have sharp edges that could puncture the covering.

Measure the required film length and include enough material for securing both ends. Next, cut the film carefully using suitable sharp tools on a safe surface.

Position the material over the supporting frame without overstretching it. Although a neat covering helps reduce excessive movement, pulling it too tightly can place strain around fixings and contact points.

Secure the film using a method compatible with the frame and ground conditions. For example, suitable clips, battens, weights or buried edges may help hold it in position.

Finally, inspect the complete installation for loose sections, sharp contact points and unsecured edges. Adjust the covering before leaving it exposed to changing weather.

Securing Cloche Film

Correctly securing the film helps prevent unnecessary movement and reduces stress around the edges.

Start by anchoring one side before drawing the covering across the frame. Then secure the opposite edge while allowing the film to follow the shape of the structure naturally.

Pay particular attention to the ends because wind can enter through unsecured openings. Furthermore, check the installation after strong winds or heavy rain.

Avoid using fixings with sharp points directly against the film. Instead, choose clips or securing methods designed for compatible garden coverings.

Ground conditions may change after rainfall, frost or prolonged dry weather. Therefore, inspect buried edges, weights and other anchors regularly.

Ventilating Cloche Film

Ventilation plays an important role when using Cloche Film. Sunlight can increase the temperature beneath the covering quickly, even when outdoor conditions feel mild.

Open or lift the covering where necessary to release excess heat and humidity. Additionally, provide enough airflow to support the plants and reduce excessive condensation.

Ventilation requirements will vary according to:

  • Outdoor temperature
  • Sunlight levels
  • Plant type
  • Growth stage
  • Soil moisture
  • Cloche size
  • Time of year
  • Local weather conditions

Monitor the plants rather than relying on a fixed ventilation schedule. During particularly warm or sunny periods, check the covered area more frequently.

Protecting Seedlings and Young Plants

Seedlings and young plants can benefit from a sheltered growing area while they establish. Therefore, cloche coverings are often useful during early-stage growth and seasonal transitions.

The film can help reduce direct exposure to wind and rainfall. In addition, it provides a physical separation between the plants and the surrounding environment.

However, the covering cannot guarantee protection against severe frost, storms or extreme temperatures. Weather conditions can change quickly, while performance also depends on the frame, installation and ventilation.

Check seedlings regularly for heat stress, excessive moisture or restricted growth. Then adjust or remove the covering when the plants no longer require the same level of protection.

Cloche Film for Crop Rows and Raised Beds

The 200m roll length makes this Cloche Film suitable for covering multiple crop rows or preparing several cloches.

For repeated installations, measure and cut the sections before placing them over the frames. This approach can help keep the lengths consistent and make installation more efficient.

Raised beds may require extra material because the covering must accommodate both the supporting hoops and the bed structure. Therefore, measure the complete profile before cutting.

Where planting rows differ in length, label the cut sections before installation. Consequently, you can identify each piece without repeatedly unfolding the film.

Managing Condensation and Moisture

Condensation may develop beneath horticultural coverings when warm, moist air meets the cooler film surface. While some moisture is normal, excessive condensation can create unsuitable growing conditions.

Ventilate the cloche regularly and avoid unnecessary overwatering. Furthermore, check that water does not collect in low points on the film.

Position hoops at suitable intervals so the covering remains supported. This helps reduce sagging areas where rainwater or condensation could gather.

After heavy rain, inspect the structure and remove collected water safely. Do not puncture the film to drain water because the opening may tear or reduce protection.

Cutting and Handling Cloche Film

Measure carefully before cutting the Cloche Film from the roll. Then place the material on a clean surface so stones, tools or rough ground do not damage it.

Use suitable cutting tools and create a clean edge. Jagged or accidental cuts may develop into larger tears once the film moves in the wind.

When handling long sections, ask another person to help where necessary. This makes positioning easier and can prevent the material from dragging across the ground.

Avoid folding sharp objects inside the film when storing prepared sections. In addition, keep offcuts because they may prove useful for small covers or compatible repairs.

Maintaining the Covering

Inspect installed film regularly, particularly after strong winds, heavy rain or sudden temperature changes.

Check for:

  • Loose edges
  • Damaged securing points
  • Tears or punctures
  • Sagging areas
  • Collected rainwater
  • Excessive condensation
  • Overheating
  • Contact with sharp frame edges

Repair or replace damaged sections where appropriate. Furthermore, adjust the fixings if the film has become loose or excessively tight.

Keep plant growth away from sharp or damaged parts of the frame. As crops grow, you may also need to increase ventilation or reposition the covering.

Storing Cloche Film

Store unused Cloche Film in a clean, dry place away from sharp objects, direct heat and unnecessary sunlight.

Retain the roll packaging where practical because it can help protect the remaining film. Additionally, support the roll so rough floors or protruding objects do not damage its edges.

Before storing used sections, allow them to dry and remove loose soil or debris. Then fold or roll them carefully without trapping sharp objects inside.

Inspect stored material before using it again. If you find significant tears, brittleness or other damage, replace the affected section.
